Summary of Organizers:

1. Royal Watercolour Society (RWS)
The society was established in 1804 by a group of young artists who felt dissatisfied with the frequently undervalued status of the watercolor paintings classified by the Royal Academy of Art of the time. In 1881, the society was given the permission by Queen Victoria to use "Royal" in its title, hence RWS.

The society was organized to glorify and extend the tradition, education, techniques, and standard of British watercolor paintings. The society is the oldest art society ever formed and yet still functioning in UK, also known to be the oldest watercolor society in the world.

2. The Sunday Times

Established in 1821, The Sunday Times has a weekly circulation of 1.3 million copies, taking up to 50% of the Sunday newspapers market in UK.

3.Since 1987 the competition has been jointly organized by The Sunday Times and Singer and Friedlander Banking Group to be titled "Singer and Friedlander/ The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition". However, since Singer & Friedlander Banking Group underwent the reorganization this year and decided to discontinue their sponsorship to the competition, the Sunday Times and the RWS jointly organize the 2008 competition, to which Penguin Book, the Publishing Company is one of the sponsors.

Penguin Book in UK: Penguin Book in UK is the branch office of Penguin Group, the world second largest commercial publishing company. The Penguin Group published Classical Literature Series in 1946,
translating the famous ancient Greek epic Homer's Odyssey to begin with. The Classical Literature Series put great overall emphasis on art design and is also noted for such designs.

Introduction of Jury Committee:

All the jurors are world prominent art professionals, such as President of RWS Richard Sorrell, RA member Antony Green, Director of British Government Art Collection Penny Johnson, Visiting Professor of Yale University Brian Allen, and Art Critic of Sunday Times Frank Whitford, etc.
