Contemporary Sculpture Combined with Prehistoric Fossils
A Unique Work in the World

Meticulously depicted with totems, having an artistic design of Buddha hands, the bronze sculptures are holding with Buddha's attentive care between palms the rare, intact fossils of pistosauroidea, giant mosasaurs, and large dazzling color ammonites, jade-like petrified wood,...... these amazing pieces of "Hundreds of Millions of Years Fossil Totemic Bronze," are the brilliant creativity of Artist Professor Lee Sun-Don, his romantic representation of stories across time and space.

"These fossils went through a long wait of hundreds of millions of years under the gound, until one day re-emerged in the world. Such a deep causation, to me, is a very romantic thing. It can be a collection, or a work of art. I had the idea of combining it with art so as to bring it back to life as an artwork in front of everyone." As a winner of more than a hundred international awards, and an artist acclaimed by the European and American art circles as the" Oriental Picasso","Ultra-Avant-Garde Artists," Professor Lee Sun-Don talked tirelessly about how he began his artistic creation. And this creative concept of "beyond human boundary", "combining hundreds of millions of years fossils with contemporary sculpture", is also the first ever in the art circle of the world, unprecedented in art history!

Fossils, traced back to hundreds of millions of years ago, is the precious heritage on pre-historic lives being petrofied in the stratum over long years. Lee Sun-Don opened up a new creative perspective of contemporary art by combining the bronze sculptures with fossils across time and space, thus imbuing artistic vitality into these fossils, transceding them into museum art.

This year a new series was presented for the first time in Art Revolution Taipei, drawing gasping signs from collectors and admiration from artists. The major international collectors, President Chen Wugang of Kelti Group said with a unique insight: Last year, I looked all over the world but could not find anything. I was surprised to find that Professor Lee combined gorgeous and magnificent color ammonites with contemporary sculpture. How can I miss such artworks! So in less than a minute in the preview, President Chen decided to collect these works. This year Professor Lee introduced his latest series works, another challenge to himself. In the choice of fossils and in the creation of totemic bronze, Professor Lee once again exceeds himselt to reach another milestone!

Rare, Precious, Hard to Find,
Priceless Treasures of the World

Fossil treasures are hard to find. If not excavated or released by the owner, even if collectors are willing to pay a high price, those items will still not be found anywhere. The fossils used by Lee Sun-Don for his creation, such as pistosauroidea, mosasaurs, ichthyosaurs and color ammonites, petrified wood and other fossils, are not only museum level collection, but are also rare treasures! The fossils of pistosauraus and mosasaurs especially amazed paleontology experts.

The pistosauroidea fossil in the work "The World in Hand / Dragon King of the World," described by Lee Sun-Don as "Dragon Bead Stored Within," is considered unique in the world so far! According to paleontology experts, the pistosauroidea existent in the early Triassic was a land animal that turned into a sea animal. Its long neck and flippers are the proof of evolution, which are also the two major characteristics that the scholars base upon to identify it to be the ancestors of plesiosaur. However, the pistosauroidea fossils unearthed are very few in number, and the complete skeleton is even rarer. The first piece was excavated in 2006, when this intact fossil of pistosauroidea became the cover stories of "Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology" of the United States!

This pistosauroidea fossils used by Lee Sun-Don for the creation was kept very complete from the neck, spine, tail and even to each abdominal ribs. The paleontology experts said that it is only in the condition of hypoxic environment and being buried alive instantly that the fossils can be kept intact. The number of unearthed pistosauroidea is very few, so it is very rare to find a piece in a complete state of preservation; what is more particular is that this pistosauroidea fossils carry enigmatic round object in its abdomen, which is the first time ever to be found. Thus it is unable to be certain whether the round object is a foreign matter, or it is simply part of the pistosauroidea itself. This pistosauroidea fossils are not only rare, but its coiling posture itself is also quite artistic, making it an excellent creation of nature!

The Mosasaurs skull fossils in the work "The World in Hand / Betowing Fearlessness" is the same amazing! In the movie "Jurassic Park" the giant monster breaking out of the water, is the mosasaurs, called King of the Sea, active in the Cretaceous.

The complete mosasaurs skull fossil unearthed is not a large number. At present, only the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, Taiwan has one piece. The mosasaurs skull fossils used by Professor Lee Sun-Don for his creation was unearthed in Morocco. It is already rare to find one with complete skull, teeth arranged in neat rows with no loss, it is even rarer to see the marks of proliferation of small teeth! And from the size of the skull, 206 cm in length, and 168 cm in width, this mosasaurs is estimated to be at least 15 meters long!

Each Totemic Bronze is the One and Only,
Showing Creativity and Cultural Heritage

Facing these fossils coming across millions of years, Professor Lee tailored for each its own respective bronze in the shape of gentle, vigorous hand painted with totems; each piece is unique, not only showing the magnificent bearing, but also producing stunning strength to touch people's hearts.

And these unique hands, in Professor Lee's own words: "This is the Buddha's hand, a symbol of his care for all beings. The creation of these different hand sculptures is just a way to express the Buddha's care and love, comforting these fossils after their long hard wait." Based on such a religious literacy, cultural heritage and romantic interpretation, Professor Lee Sun-Don finally met the fossils after hundreds of millions of years, and endowed them with a new artistic life.

“Moon.The World Beyond” Made a Breakthrough in Techniques;
The Unique and Original "Totem Cut" Shows 3D on a Plane.

With his totemic energy oil paintings Professor Lee Sun-Don amazed the international art circle and was thus reputed as the pioneer of a new art genre "Totemic Energy Oil Painting" and the forerunner of spiritual energy style; his unique totem style with Zen meaning goes beyond Contemporary art. Professor Lee was invited to exhibit in a "Personal Oil Painting Pavilion"in the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, the first person in Asia for centuries!

Professor Lee Sun-Don presents his latest work "Moon ‧ The World Beyond" and "Moon ‧ Patriarch Zen." The creative idea of these works is to express mainly that Buddhism is not rigid and serious, but as the mountains above the world depicted in the painting, is approachable and bears countless surprises. If Buddhist doctrines can be infused into daily life, many incredible subtlety can be found in Buddhist doctrines, as if immeasurable treasures are waiting to be discovered.

On the creative techniques, in addition to the blue background and the moon of the "Moon" series, drawn on the concentric circles in extremely difficultly, Professor Lee once again made a self-breakthrough. With an innovative approach "Totem Cut" Professor Lee makes use of the change of thickness of the lines of original totems ── segmentation of the coarse line, carving of the fine line, to create the visual effect of having another totem within a totem. Professor Lee, having created the first totem, then carves the second totem, to make the two seem divided and yet overlapping to become three dimensional at the same time, better showing the visual changes of the totem in three dimension.

"Hundreds of Millions of Years Fossil Totemic Bronze" and the new series "Moon ‧ The World Beyond","Moon ‧ Patriarch Zen", will make its debut in the "Art Revolution Taipei 2016" in the Taipei World Trade Center, the Third Hall, from April 22 to 25. The art lovers may visit the exhibiton site to have a closer view of these great artworks, to experience the artist's romantic representation across time and space.
