Pioneer of Totemic Energy Oil Painting
Lee Sun-Don Exhibits His Latest Collections at Artexpo New York

Lee Sun-Don, the artist from Taiwan, who received more than 40 honorable art recognitions from the world just within the year of 2008, will exhibit his latest collections, including Awakening Series and Blessing Series, in the 31st Annual International Artexpo New York, running from February 26 to March 2, 2009. In the newsletter released by the Artexpo New York, Lee's exhibit is highlighted as one of the "new and noteworthy coming attractions" at this year's show. He is also heralded as "the world's foremost pioneer of Totemic Energy Oil Painting" and "the first Buddhist [Master] to combine Buddha dharma with Western oil painting".

Following the Artexpo New York, Lee will exhibit his artworks in the Collateral Events of the 53rd Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, known as the "Olmpics of the Arts", in June. Lee's solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale is curated by Achille Bonito Oliva. Oliva has introduced Aperto, a section of exhibition designed to explore emerging art, in the Venice Biennale of 1980, and directed the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993. As a highly regarded Italian contemporary art critic, Oliva remarks Lee as "an all-round artist" and commends Lee for Lee's artistic depth and breadth reminding us of the inspirations revealed in the works of Balla, Kandinskij, Klee, Arp, Mirò and Matisse."

Inspired by his Buddhist practice and built upon Chinese cultivation, Lee develops Totemic Energy Oil Painting to embody in Western oil art the profundity of Chinese culture and Zen sensibility. He is especially renowned for incorporating "totems", images manifesting the wisdom of ancient civilizations, into his creation. His artworks capture the harmony of heaven and earth, and aim to awaken the glory, perfectibility, and benevolence of humanity. He wishes that the viewers can resonantly share his vision, acquire deeper understanding of spirituality, mind, nature, and existence, and gain the sense of tranquility.

Lee's Totemic Energy Oil Painting, characteristic of mind-awaking aesthetics, transcends the horizon of contemporary art and has thus drawn great attention in the art circles of the world. In the single year of 2008, for example, Lee has won forty honorable recognitions across the globe, including the World-Wide Competition 2008 of the 3rd Art (Painting) organized by World and Universal Academy in Netherlands (winning Grand Prize), the RWS / Sunday Times Watercolour Competition in UK, the Royal West of England Academy 156th Autumn Exhibition, the L'Chayim Art Show in USA (wining 2nd Place), and four French International Autumn Salons. Recent exhibitions have been held in Milan, Rome, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Kyoto, Singapore, and Taipei. Recognizing his creativity, many international-celebrated art societies in Europe, America, and Australia have granted him membership, of which is the 1754-established Royal Society for the Encouragement of Art, Manufactures & Commerce, best known as RSA – the first art society that was conferred upon the title of "Royal" in British history. Camaver Kunsthaus International, an Italy-based art group with galleries located in EU and USA, even exalts Lee as the "Top Artist" - in the past 60 years or so only five artists in the world have received such honor.

As the world's largest popular and fine art fair, Artexpo New York has attracted more than 25,000 collectors, connoisseurs, and visitors, and has drawn hundreds of talented artists across the globe to participate every year. Andy Warhol, a key figure in Pop Art, for example, had held exhibition in this art fair.

Lee's exhibition at the 31st Artexpo New York features Awakening Series, which have been selected into various art exhibitions, including Bankside Gallery (UK), the VI Edizione Premio OpenArt 2009 (Italy), and Art Buzz, The 2009 Collection (USA). In addition, he will also exhibit the Supreme Huayan Series (selected into Midwest National Abstract Art Exhibition IV, USA) and his 2009 collections, including Treasure Vessels Series and Blessing Series.
